Skin Cancer :-

The skin is the largest organ in the body. It covers the body, protecting it from injury, regulating its temperature and preventing it from becoming dehydrated.
Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. Skin cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal skin cells. It occurs when unrepaired DNA damage to skin cells (most often caused by ultraviolet radiation from sun ray or tanning beds) that lead the skin cells to multiply rapidly and form malignant tumors.
Skin cancer affects people of all colors and races, although those with light skin who sunburn easily have a higher risk Skin has two main layers called the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis is the outer layer of the skin while dermis is the underneath the epidermis.

Types of Skin Cancer

Basically there are three types of cancer
1. Basal cell carcinoma     2. Squamous cell carcinoma     3. Melanoma

  1. Skin Cancer: Basal cell carcinoma(BCC)

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer.
 There are several different types of basal cell carcinoma, including the superficial type, the least concern variety; the nodular type, the most common; and the morpheaform, the most challenging to treat because the tumors often grow into the surrounding tissue (infiltrate) without a well-defined border.
Basal cell carcinoma generally occurs in sun-exposed areas of your body, such as your neck or face, scalp, neck, hands, and arms.
But it may also appear on parts of the body that did not get lots of sun, such as the genitals.

Basal Cell Carcinoma Signs and Symptoms

Early signs and symptoms of  Basal Cell Carcinoma include:

→ Reddish patch of dry skin that won’t heal
→ Flesh-colored (or pink, red, or brown) pearl-shaped lump

→ Pimple that just won’t clear

→ Sore that bleeds, heals, and then returns

→ Scar that feels waxy — may be skin-colored, white, or yellow

→ Group of slow-growing, shiny pink or red growths — look like sores, often scaly and bleed easily

→ Flat or sunken growth — feels hard, may be white or yellow

2. Skin Cancer: Squamous Cell Carcinoma(SCC)

Squamous cell carcinoma accounts for about 20% of all skin cancers but is more common in immunosuppressed people. In most instances, its biologic behavior is much like basal cell carcinoma, with minimal chance of spread.
SCC commonly appears on skin that got lots of sun, such as an ear, face, bald scalp, neck, or arm. But it can appear elsewhere — even inside the mouth, on the lip, or on the genitals.
 SCC can appear on skin that was badly burned, had lots of radiation (such as x-rays), or was exposed to strong chemicals.

Squamous cell carcinoma(SCC) Signs and Symptoms

Early signs and symptoms of   Squamous Cell Carcinoma include:

→ Hard (scaly or crusty) reddish bump, patch, or pearl-shaped growth

→ Open sore that itches and bleeds; it can heal and return

→ Scaly patch on the lip; skin on the lip can get thick

3. Skin Cancer: Melanoma

Melanoma often appears in an existing mole or looks like a new mole. If treated early, melanoma is often curable. Melanoma can affect people of any skin tone.

Melanoma Signs and Symptoms

Early signs and symptoms of Melanoma include:

→ A mole on the skin that is growing, changing shape, or changing color

→ A mole that looks scaly, oozes, or bleeds

→ New dark spot on the skin that looks like a mole, but grows quickly

→ Pain, itch, or bleeding in a new spot on the skin

→ Streak (usually brown or black) underneath a fingernail or toenail

→ Bruise on the foot that does not heal

1. Skin Cancer Causes: Excessive sun exposure

Sun exposure cause damage to skin cells and increase your risk of developing skin cancer. Evidence suggests that regular exposure to UV radiation year after year can also lead to skin cancer.

2. Skin Cancer Causes: Sunlamps / Sunbeds

Frequently using sunlamps and sunbeds can increase the danger of developing some skin cancers. The more you use a sunbed or sunlamp, and the earlier in life you begin using them, the greater your risk.

3.Skin Cancer Causes: Fair Skin 

Fair Skin peoples especially having blond or red hair and blue, green, or gray eyes are more prone to Sin Cancer.

4. Skin Cancer Causes: History of sunburns

Sunburns as a child or teenager increases your risk of developing skin cancer as an adult.

5. Skin Cancer Causes: Sunny or high-altitude climates

People who live in sunny areas with warm climates are exposed to more sunlight have greater chances of developing skin cancer. Skin Cancer may also be developed if a person Live (or once lived) in an area that gets intense sunlight.

6. Skin Cancer Causes: Moles

Peoples with lots of moles or abnormal moles are are at high risk of skin cancer. These abnormal moles looks irregular in shape and are generally larger than normal moles.

7. Skin Cancer Causes: Precancerous skin lesions

Having skin injuries(sores, lesions, wounds)can increase your risk of developing skin cancer.

8. Skin Cancer Causes: Family history

If someone in the family has had skin cancer, the risk of developing a skin cancer increase as all have the same skin type.

9. Skin Cancer Causes: Personal history

Your risk of developing skin cancer increases if  you’ve had a skin cancer before.

10. Skin Cancer Causes: Lowered Immunity

People with weakened immune systems have a greater risk of developing skin cancer. This includes individuals living with Lymphoma, HIV/AIDS and those taking immunosuppressant drugs after an organ transplant.

11. Skin Cancer Causes: Exposure to radiation

Individuals who received radiation for skin treatments in treating eczema and acne have an increased risk of skin cancer, particularly basal cell carcinoma.

12. Skin Cancer Causes: Exposure to chemicals

People exposed to Chemicals like Arsenic (working with or swallowing), Coal and industrial tar have a much higher risk of skin cancer.
